Overview:

The Arc of Howard County is seeking a Career Exploration Specialist to teach methods that help participants in small and/or large groups to learn skills to work in competitive, integrated employment, such as, time management,  strategies for completing tasks, interpersonal skills, effective communication, and how to problem solve. Works collaboratively with Employment Specialist (s) and Job Developer (s) to identify and provide support needed to people who are unemployed or underemployed to meet their employment goals. Demonstrates commitment to employment as the first option for all people, regardless of ability. 

Shift: Monday-Friday 8:00AM-4:00PM [40 hours]

Responsibilities

  • Use person centered and community employment planning to help the people they are supporting identify their career and employment interests.
  • Provide ongoing job supports such as job coaching, systematic instruction, travel training, personal care assistance, behavioral supports and other delegate tasks applicable to the employment activities.
  • Assist the people they are supporting in acquiring the necessary resources to achieve their employment objectives.
  • Support people to navigate and prepare for the application and interview process.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with area businesses.
  • Use technology such as smartphones and laptops to communicate with other stakeholders and complete necessary paperwork for the position.
  • Maintain collaborative professional relationships with the participant and all support team members (including family/friends and other departments) 

Required Knowledge/Qualifications:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have a GED or High School Diploma
  • Microsoft Office experience
  • Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities.
  • Valid Maryland's driver license and daily access to an insured vehicle to travel
  • Excellent time management and customer service skills
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to successfully complete all agency required training
  • Experience assisting people to seek and/or obtain employment (Preferred)
  • Ability to successfully  complete all COMAR and agency required training
